On April 6, 2008, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine issued a statement about the ongoing "negotiations" between Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and PA President Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), demanding that such negotiations be ended immediately.
The statement noted that such so-called negotiations are futile, and in fact, provide cover for the occupation and its ongoing crimes. The statement continued, emphasizing that such negotiations with the enemy do nothing to address the internal Palestinian division, which should instead be the priority for Palestinian leadership.
In addition, amidst discussion and media reporting about a so-called "calm" or "truce," the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, the military branch of the PFLP, issued a communique to the Palestinian people on April 7, 2008, reaffirming their position on the talks about the "truce" or "calm," particularly in light of recent news reports that Egypt is attempting to broker some sort of deal or negotiation for a "temporary calm."
In the statement, AAMB rejects the so-called "truce" with the occupiers for the following reasons:
1. Israel has never committed to any "truce" or calm in the history of the occupation, and nothing indicates they will do so this time, especially in light of the daily attacks of the Israeli occupation forces against our people throughout the entire land of Palestine.
2. Israel's dismantling of several military posts on the borders after the visit of war criminal Avi Dichter, comes under the pressure of the heroic resistance of our movements and not because of any "goodwill" to our people, nor because of the so-called negotiations.
3. The Israeli enemy with the full support of the United States, will treat any so-called "calm" as a mockery, and will show it no respect. The only language they understand is the language of forces: more roadside explosives, more missiles, more clashes, more resistance.
AAMB stated that it will continue the resistance until the liberation of Palestine and it will march along the path of the martyrs of the Palestinian people until victory.
