Cuban Ambassador in Damascus meets with Comrade Dr. Maher al-Taher

March 6, 2008 - The Cuban Ambassador in Damascus, Luis Erinel Marisy Figueredo, met recently with Comrade Dr. Maher al-Taher, member of the Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and head of its branch in exile, in Damascus, to discuss the Palestinian, Arab and international situation.

In the meeting, they discussed the developments in Palestine and Cuba, and the long-term friendship between the Palestinian and Cuban peoples, and the latest Israeli aggression and massacres in Gaza.

Comrade Taher said that the historical relationship between Cuba and the Front, and Cuba and the Palestinian people, has always been one of support for the Arab cause and the cause of the Cuban people. They spoke about the need for nations to protect their resources and utilize that protection in confronting U.S. imperialism and Zionism, particularly in the Arab homeland and in Latin America.

In that light, the Cuban Ambassador addressed the crisis of U.S. imperialism in Latin America, drawing attention to the rise and power of popular movements in Venezuela and elsehwere, coming alongside countries like Syria and Iran in the region resisting U.S. imperialism.

In addition, Comrade Taher conducted a series of meetings with Arab diplomats on the current situation and occupation crimes in Palestine.
